Set up the Chrome Companion

Before you start

Install Slurp in Applications, make sure Google Chrome is installed, and keep Slurp running while you complete the setup. The Chrome Companion is optional: ordinary links can still be pasted directly into Slurp.

Why Chrome uses a manual installation

Slurp distributes its Chrome Companion directly with the Mac app rather than through the Chrome Web Store. The Companion supports the same media workflow as Slurp, including sites such as YouTube, so we do not ship a reduced Web Store version. Chrome supports local extensions through Developer mode and Load unpacked.

The Companion remains local to your Mac. It does not request broad access to every site and it does not read browser cookies.

1. Start from Slurp

1. Open Slurp → Settings → Integrations.
2. Find Chrome under Browser Integrations · Beta.
3. Choose Set Up….

Slurp prepares the Companion files and local bridge automatically. Keep the setup assistant open while you install the extension in Chrome.

2. Open Chrome Extensions

Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions.

Then switch on Developer mode in the top-right corner. If you want, use Copy chrome://extensions in Slurp and paste it into Chrome’s address bar.

3. Copy Slurp’s extension folder path

In the Slurp setup assistant, choose Copy Folder Path.

The path is:

~/Library/Application Support/Slurp/BrowserExtension

4. Click Load unpacked

Back on chrome://extensions, click Load unpacked. Chrome opens the Select the extension directory file picker.

5. Select the extension directory

1. In the file picker, press Command + Shift + G.
2. Paste the folder path you copied from Slurp.
3. Press Return.
4. Click Select.

Chrome should now show a Slurp Browser Companion card on the Extensions page.

6. Optional: pin the Companion

Open Chrome’s Extensions menu from the toolbar and pin Slurp Browser Companion if you want its button to stay visible.

7. Return to Slurp

There is no pairing code. Return to Slurp and leave the setup assistant open for a moment. Slurp checks the local Companion automatically and changes the Chrome row to Ready when the connection is detected.

After a Slurp update

If Settings shows Update available, open Set Up… again. Slurp refreshes the local Companion files automatically. Go to chrome://extensions and click Reload on the Slurp Browser Companion card.

If Chrome still does not show Ready

• Confirm that the Slurp Browser Companion card is enabled in chrome://extensions.
• Click Reload on the extension card, then return to Slurp.
• Open Details for the extension and confirm it was loaded from Slurp’s BrowserExtension folder.
• Keep Slurp running while testing the Companion.

If it still does not connect, use Help → Contact Support in Slurp so you can review and optionally include diagnostics.

What the Companion can access

The Chrome Companion uses temporary access to the active tab when you invoke Slurp. It can inspect page and media information needed to send the current page to the local Slurp app. It does not request permanent access to every website and does not read browser cookies.
