Set up the Firefox Companion

Connect Firefox to Slurp with the public Browser Companion from Mozilla Add-ons.

What the Firefox Companion does

The Companion connects Firefox to the locally installed Slurp app. When you explicitly use Slurp from the browser, it can inspect the current page for video or audio and send the page or detected media to Slurp.

The Companion does not replace Slurp itself. Downloads and recordings are still handled by the Slurp macOS app.

Set up Firefox

  1. Install Slurp on your Mac.
  2. Open the official Slurp Browser Companion listing in Mozilla Add-ons using Firefox and add the extension.
  3. Open Slurp → Settings → Integrations.
  4. If Slurp asks you to finish the Firefox bridge setup, choose the Firefox setup action and follow the prompts.
  5. Return to Slurp and confirm Firefox shows as Ready.

Privacy

The Firefox Companion only accesses the active page when you explicitly invoke Slurp. Current-page information and detected media are passed locally to the Slurp macOS app through Firefox Native Messaging.

Mozilla’s store disclosure categorizes the extension’s active-page handling as browsing activity, website activity and website content. Slurp uses that information locally for the action you requested; it is not sent to Slurp servers.

The Companion does not request access to your Firefox cookies and does not send your browsing history or detected media to Slurp servers.

Requirements

If Firefox does not show Ready

Open Slurp → Settings → Integrations and run the Firefox setup action again so Slurp can refresh the local Native Messaging bridge. Then reload the extension or restart Firefox and check the connection again.
