How to download online video on a Mac
The exact options change from site to site, but the useful workflow is consistent: start with the individual item, inspect what is available, then save the copy you actually need.
To download a supported online video on a Mac, copy the individual media link, paste it into Slurp and analyze it. Choose an available Video or Audio option, select the quality you want, check the destination folder and click Download. Slurp saves the resulting file locally on your Mac.
Start with the right link
Use the URL for the individual video, post, Reel, Short or other media item whenever possible. Profile pages, feeds, search results and homepages often contain many possible media items and are less precise starting points.
If a service gives you a short share URL, Slurp may be able to follow its redirect to the real item. The result still depends on what the final source exposes and whether your current access is sufficient.
Download in four steps
Copy the media item’s URL
Open the video or post you want in your browser and copy its address. Make sure the page itself still plays for you before troubleshooting the downloader.
Paste and analyze
Open New in Slurp, paste the URL and press Return or use the Analyze arrow. Slurp resolves the link and shows the media options it can access.
Choose the output
Select Video or Audio when those choices are available. Pick a quality and format that suits what you want to keep, and choose subtitles when a supported source exposes a subtitle track Slurp can save.
Download to your Mac
Check the destination folder, click Download and follow progress in Queue. Completed items appear in History, and the media file lives in the folder you chose.
Choose video, audio, subtitles and quality
Slurp does not treat every source as if it has the same formats. One link may offer several video resolutions and audio choices; another may expose only one usable combined stream.
Quality labels describe the media Slurp can access from the source. If 4K or 8K is not offered, selecting a higher number elsewhere would not create genuine extra detail. Creator-provided subtitles are available on supported sources when Slurp can access them.
When browser assistance helps
Some pages expose useful media only inside an authorized browser session or after the page has run. Slurp’s optional browser companions can send the page you explicitly choose to the local Mac app so it can use relevant page and session context on supported sources.
The companion does not send your general browsing history to Slurp and does not bypass private-account permissions or DRM. Set up a browser companion.
If the link does not work
Open the URL in your browser first. If the item was removed, became private, is geo-restricted or is protected by DRM, the downloader may not be able to access it either. Then check for Slurp, site-compatibility and download-engine updates and analyze the link again.
If a previously working source changed, use Report this problem in Slurp when available. You can review the diagnostics before sending and decide separately whether to include the affected URL. See the troubleshooting checklist.
Common questions
Can Slurp download any online video?
No. Slurp supports many common sources and additional sites handled by its media engines, but each link still depends on source support, accessible formats and access controls.
Can I save only the audio?
Yes when the analyzed source exposes a supported audio option. Choose Audio and one of the available outputs.
Can I choose 4K or 8K?
Only when the source exposes that quality in an accessible supported format. Slurp does not upscale a lower-resolution source into genuine 4K or 8K.
Where does the downloaded file go?
Slurp saves it to the destination folder you choose on your Mac. Completed items are also listed in Slurp History.
