How to download YouTube videos on a Mac
Keep a tutorial beside your project, save a talk for a journey, or listen to a video as audio. Start with the link to the video you want to keep.
To download a supported YouTube video on your Mac, copy the video link, paste it into Slurp and press Return to analyze it. Choose Video or Audio, select an available quality and click Download. Slurp saves the file to your chosen folder.
Download in four steps.
Copy the video’s own link
Open the YouTube video in your browser and copy its address. Use the individual video link, rather than a channel or search-results page. A supported Shorts video can also start from its own link.
Paste it into Slurp
Open New in Slurp, paste the link into the URL field and press Return, or use the Analyze arrow. Wait for the available media and formats to appear.
Choose video, audio and quality
Choose Video to save the picture and sound, or Audio for a listening copy. Select from the quality and format options Slurp finds. Check the destination folder before you start.
Download and find your file
Click Download. Follow its progress in Queue and find the completed item in History. The file is saved in the destination you chose, ready to open on your Mac.
Choose the copy you actually need
For a tutorial you want to watch, choose Video. For a talk you only need to hear, choose Audio. Available quality comes from the source: selecting a higher resolution cannot add detail that the original video does not contain.
Slurp can offer 4K or 8K when that quality is available in an accessible, supported format. A lower-resolution source will have different choices.
Keep creator-provided subtitles
If Slurp finds subtitles supplied by the creator, you can choose them in the subtitle options. The current app intentionally excludes automatically generated captions. Subtitle choices therefore may not match every caption option shown on YouTube.
If the YouTube link does not work
First check that the video still opens in your browser and that you copied the individual video address. Check for Slurp and download-engine updates, then analyze the link again.
Some videos need an account or have access restrictions. Browser assistance can help on supported pages, but it does not make every restricted video available. Contact support with the error code if the problem persists.
Common questions
Can I download YouTube Shorts with Slurp?
Slurp can analyze supported individual YouTube Shorts links. Copy the Short’s own link and follow the same paste, analyze and download steps. Availability depends on the video and current source support.
Can I save only the audio from a YouTube video?
Yes. After Slurp analyzes a supported link, choose Audio and one of the available output options. Slurp saves an audio file to the destination on your Mac.
Why is 4K or 8K not available for my video?
Slurp can only offer the qualities it can access from the source. The video may have been uploaded at a lower resolution, or a format may not currently be accessible. Slurp does not turn a lower-resolution source into genuine 4K or 8K.
Use Slurp only for media you are authorized to save or record. Source availability can change; try the links you need during the free trial. Slurp does not bypass DRM. Usage & trademark notice.
